Journeys to the west

Rapid KL is expected to announce new bus routes for the Klang, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Damansara, Petaling Jaya and Puchong areas on September 23. It was initially planned for September 16.

Everyone knows that the KTM Komuter is always packed when you need to use it. And KTM is probably going to take quite some time to purchase new rolling stock (if ever).

I have looked at the new routes. There's something sorely missing.

So what I suggest now is that on September 23, Rapid KL will also introduce a Trunk or Express service that plies the NPE between Subang and KL, in addition to its current plans.

This service can spread out some passenger traffic from the already overused KTM Komuter. How about having the service start at somewhere in USJ / KTM Komuter and then move down the NPE pass Bandar Sunway and then pass Pantai Dalam into Jalan Bangsar before terminating at Sentral?

This route is almost parallel to the current Komuter, and it bypasses the busy Federal Highway?

But I guess it's a problem because Rapid KL won't want to pay toll charges to NPE.

Hi KL Commuter,

I've read your blogs with great interest. As a former commuter in the KL area (more specifically between Ampang & Subang Jaya) in 2000-2001, I was very optimistic in the begining about this brand new plan to overhaul KL transportation.

Having seen the routes planned so far though, I'm shocked!..Borrowing your phrase, which I happen to like very much, "Kebodohan Terlampau" would be the best way to describe this grand scheme. Just looking through various route maps, it seems that someone from Taman Alam Megah in Shah Alam would have to take a bus down to the Hentian Bandar Shah Alam (I have absolutely no idea where that is!) and then to Bandar Utama before getting to KL Sentral.

It seems to me that they've tried to model according to the systems in Boston, NY, London etc., but they've failed to realise that the systems there are more reliant on a sound subway service.

Thanks for your efforts though. I only hope and pray that the powers at be actually realise the folly of their ways!
